19.2 The Annual Celebration of Halloween Night

Halloween is the second highest-grossing commercial holiday, second only to Christmas. Halloween is not exactly a typical holiday. Other holidays, like Christmas and Hanukah, celebrate an event. Halloween celebrates a lot of things, including the lives of people who aren't with us anymore. Not everyone celebrates Halloween, but even still, it has a very interesting history which will reveal the original purpose and significance and deliberately hidden for evil design.

Halloween is the season for little ghosts and goblins to take to the streets, asking for candy and scaring one another silly. Spooky stories are told around fires, scary movies appear in theaters and pumpkins are carved into jack-o'-lanterns.

The history of Halloween is not entirely a clear one. Here's how many people think it all started.

Many hundreds of years ago, a people called the Celts lived in Europe believed that the souls of the dead visited Earth on the last day of October. They had a festival in honor of these souls of the dead, and they called it Samhain. (pronounced "sahwin")

In time, the Roman Empire conquered the Celts and took over their people, their land, and some of their beliefs as well. This included Samhain. The Romans combined it with their own festivals. And since the Roman Empire spread across a great part of the known world, the idea that the souls of the dead visited Earth on the last day of October spread far and wide. Many ideas from the Roman days still survive in the United States and in other Western countries. Halloween is one of them. But how did we get the name Halloween?

19.2.1.1 Catholic Traditional Celebration Formation – All Saints Day

In the 8th Century, the Catholic Church declared November 1 to be All Saints' Day. The church calendar had a number of days honoring saints already. November 1 was picked to be the day to honor all saints who didn't already have a day named in their honor. And the mass that the Catholic Church celebrated on November 1 was called Allhallowmas. This meant "mass of all the hallowed [saintly people.]" It was commonly called "All Hallows' Day." Somewhere along the line, the night before became known as Allhallowe'en, which was short for "evening before All Hallows' Day” or “All Hallows Eve”. It was then shortened to what we now call it, Halloween. Nov 2, became “All Souls’ Day*” to honour the faithful Christians who have died. By this added day of commemorating the dead the connection to its pagan roots is traced back to Satan’s first lie “ye shall not surely die” Gen 3:4- i.e. immortality of all souls, which is spiritualism. This gave rise to paganistic celebration in the ”Ghost Festival” which is mainly a Chinese festival but with extensions to  Chinese in Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, Cambodia, Laos, Sri Lanka and Thailand

The indulgence is plenary, under the usual conditions, each day from the first to the eighth of November; a partial indulgence is granted on any other days of the year.

The advancing centuries witnessed a constant increase of error in the doctrines put forth from Rome. Even before the establishment of the papacy the teachings of heathen philosophers had received attention and exerted an influence in the church. Many who professed conversion still clung to the tenets of their pagan philosophy, and not only continued its study themselves, but urged it upon others as a means of extending their influence among the heathen. Serious errors were thus introduced into the Christian faith.

19.2.1.1.1 The Ghost Festival (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_Festival )

The Ghost Festival, also known as the Hungry Ghost Festival, is a traditional Buddhist and Taoist festival held in certain Asian countries. According to the Chinese calendar (a lunisolar calendar), the Ghost Festival is on the 15th night of the seventh month.

In Chinese culture, the fifteenth day of the seventh month in the lunar calendar is called Ghost Day and the seventh month in general is regarded as the Ghost Month (鬼月), in which ghosts and spirits, including those of the deceased ancestors, come out from the lower realm. During Ghost Festival, the deceased are believed to visit the living.

On the fifteenth day the realms of Heaven and Hell and the realm of the living are open and both Taoists and Buddhists would perform rituals to transmute and absolve the sufferings of the deceased. Intrinsic to the Ghost Month is veneration of the dead, where traditionally the filial piety of descendants extends to their ancestors even after their deaths. Activities during the month would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning joss paper, a papier-mâché form of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors. Elaborate meals (often vegetarian meals) would be served with empty seats for each of the deceased in the family treating the deceased as if they are still living. Ancestor worship is what distinguishes Qingming Festival from Ghost Festival because the latter includes paying respects to all deceased, including the same and younger generations, while the former only includes older generations. Other festivities may include, buying and releasing miniature paper boats and lanterns on water, which signifies giving directions to the lost ghosts and spirits of the ancestors and other deities. 19.2.1.2 Dressing in Ghostly Attire

Why do people dress up as ghosts, goblins, vampires, and other scary creatures?

Different historians have different ideas about this. Some of these experts say that many years ago people believed that if they appeared scary, they would scare away the spirits of the dead who were roaming the earth on All Hallows' Eve. They say that people also carried food to the edge of town and left it there, hoping the spirits would eat that food and not come raid the village. 

Other historians believe the tradition of dressing in costumes and trick-or-treating is based on a tradition in which people would disguise themselves and go door-to-door, asking for food in exchange for prayers for the dead. Early costumes were usually disguises, often woven out of straw to hide who the person really was. Trick-or-treating didn't start in the United States until World War II, but American kids were known to go out on Thanksgiving and ask for food —a practice known as Thanksgiving begging.

American tradition of treat or treating probably dates back to the All Souls Day parades in England. During the festivities poor citizens would beg for food and families would give them pastries called soul cakes in return for their prayers to pray for the familiy’s dead relatives.  People though that ghosts would come to their homes if they left their homes.  To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. The practice of giving food or candies on Halloween is hoping to keep supposed ghosts away from their houses. People would place bowls of food outside their homes to appease the ghosts and preventing them for attempting to enter.

19.2.1.2.1 Witchcraft and Black Art

The practice of wearing masks and outfits to represent these evil creatures is universal in the human experience. From the Indians of America to China – in all the inhabited areas of the earth - traditions exist in which individuals who dress to present a god or demon are imbued with supernatural powers and often given presents or beneficial treatment.

We believe revival of witchcraft and the black arts is indicative of the end times. Satan knows the time of Christ’s return is near, and he is mustering all of his forces to engage in a battle he has lost already. Let no one doubt that witchcraft and sorcery are very real. The number of occult-related murders has been on the increase in this country for more than a generation. Moreover, one of the most significant occult dates of all- the one favored for the Black Mass - is Halloween, celebrated the last day of October in our nation. On college campuses and universities today, Anton LaVey’s Satanic Bible is often a best-seller - in some cases, outselling the Bible itself. It is of great importance to realize that the powers some claim are not powers of themselves; real sorcery relies on demonic or Satanic power. Ephesians6:12 states: “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. ”There is, in conclusion, only one way to win against Satan; that is victory through Christ Jesus.

Prophetic Application:

Paganism, while appearing to be vanquished, became the conqueror. Her spirit controlled the church. Her doctrines, ceremonies, and superstitions were incorporated into the faith and worship of the professed followers of Christ. {4SP 51.2 }

The Roman Catholic Church, uniting the forms of paganism and Christianity, and, like paganism, misrepresenting the character of God, has resorted to practices no less cruel and revolting. In the days of Rome’s supremacy there were instruments of torture to compel assent to her doctrines. There was the stake for those who would not concede to her claims. There were massacres on a scale that will never be known until revealed in the judgment. Dignitaries of the church studied, under Satan their master, to invent means to cause the greatest possible torture and not end the life of the victim. 19.2.1.2.2 “Pokemon Go” is Augmented Reality

Pokémon Go (stylized Pokémon GO) is a location-based, augmented reality game for mobile devices developed by Niantic for iOS and Android operating systems. It was released in most regions of the world in July 2016. Typically played on mobile phones, players use the device's GPS and camera to capture, battle, and train virtual creatures, called Pokémon, who appear on the screen as if they were in the same real-world location as the player. The game is free-to-play, although in-app purchases are advertised for additional gameplay items.

 It quickly became one of the most used mobile apps shortly after release and was downloaded by more than 40 million people worldwide. It has been credited with popularizing location-based and augmented reality gaming as well as for promoting physical activity. ROME - Instead of looking for Pikachu and the rest of the Pokemon characters, a new free app allows young people, and those not so young, to roam the streets seeking saints, Marian devotions  and biblical figures, and then interact with them in a game aimed at not only teaching young people about their faith, but also leading them to live the works of mercy. (This is the teaching of another gospel that serves another spirit.It is mixing evil with good.)

Called “Follow JC Go!” (“Follow Jesus Christ Go!”), the app was launched in Spanish on Wednesday and will be available in English, Italian and Portuguese in upcoming weeks.

The app comes with a papal blessing, as Pope Francis was introduced to the game on Tuesday and reportedly commended it, saying that young people participating in an Oct. 3-28 meeting of bishops have been speaking about technology and how to better use it as an evangelization tool.

19.2.2 The Deadly Deception Perspective 

This holiday may seem harmless and fun to most of us who enjoyed this celebration. But there is a dark past and dangerous meaning that can affect your life’s destiny. It was purely for righting the wrong in the Catholic religion that was not biblical that caused Martin Luther, devout monk to use the occasion on October 31, 1517 to show to the people the truth by nailing his 95 these protesting against the doctrine of Indulgences on the door of the Wittenberg Church for people attending church on All Saints Day to read. 

The Halloween’s origin date back to the ancient Celtic Festival of Sallwin. Halloween is so interwoven with evil teachings and practices that we should avoid any association with it.  It is a holiday dedicated to the devil and the false teaching of spiritualism. the teaching that the dead can live on after they die. Two of the main lies are: Immortality of the Soul and eternal punishment in Hell.

Many churches have taken pagan doctrine of death. They believe that after death is just another life that the soul is immortal. Only God is immortal (1 Tim 6:15-16). The Faithful Christians shall be given immortality at the second coming of Jesus (1 Cor 15:52, 53) .  Many believe that after death a person immediately enters heaven or hell, where they burn in eternal fire. Do you really think that God is so cruel? God who loves us so that He sent His son Jesus Christ that died for us and saved us. Our heavenly Father loves us and would never have committed such an affliction. The Bible clearly says what is happening with the man after his death. Death is likened to a long sleep. After the death of a man, he sleeps until the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.  On death his soul is returned to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12.7. He no longer see, feel, and is at peace with no pain. (Psalm 115.17 - Dead now praise the Lord, no, who descended into the realm of silence. Ecclesiastes 9.5,6 - the living know that they will die but the dead know nothing and waiting for no more reward, the memory is forgotten.) There is no communication with the dead ( seances are enacted by the evil spirits who are fallen angels like Satan Rev 12: 9; 16:14; 2 Cor 11:14-15.) Believers in Seances open themselves up to being deceived by Satan himself. God strongly warns against such practices ( LLev 20:27. ) Halloween with its ghosts, witches and celebration of the dead promotes spiritualism. and goes directly against God’s word. Have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them -Eph 5:11. It is calling us to not only have no association with any type of dark activity BUT ALSO to shed light upon this topic to those around us. As stated earlier in this article, Halloween was not exposed by the church for what it was, but rather was incorporated into church holy days.

There is no excuse that since it is so popular that surely there is no harm in celebrating along with the crowd.  God is calling humanity to follow Him and to "come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you…” – 2 Cor 6:17.

Imagine if your mother dies and enters immediately after death to heaven. She will be surrounded by the most unimaginable beauty and love. The problem occurs when she you suffering in misery and pain, even death from disease which she will not be able to prevent. Do you think your mom would be really happy? The Bible clearly says that death is a deep sleep until there is justice. (Hebrews 9.27 - People are determined to die once, and then awaiting trial.) Truth will not always be popular as “strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it”- Mat 7:13-14.

The immortality of the soul, is not Biblical. It is a pagan doctrine that is gradually creeping into Christianity. the spiritualist temptation which Satan has prepared for us. The word “soul” is used 1600 times , but nowhere is the word associated with the word immortal. Immortality of the soul is pagan learning, which was taken from Babylon, Egypt, Rome. Pagans believed that the soul lives on.

Jesus said “Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”- Matthew 10.28.

Many people are afraid of hell and eternal suffering. The Bible speaks of hell that is only until the final day of reckoning comes. When Jesus Christ resurrects the wicked and gives a decision at all, then there is hell to cleanse our country from the sin, the eternal and unquenchable fire and destroy all sinners. This will be the second, final and eternal death. Then God will restore and create a new land. Theory of purgatory and the immortality of the soul is a figment of philosophy, the foundations of Plato. Throughout the Bible there is not one verse speaking, that the soul was immortal, or that there was a purgatory as conceived by Catholicism

The Bible is quite clear with many verses that speak about the dead being asleep and do not know anything until the second coming of Jesus Christ. Then Jesus Christ resurrects the dead and reward according to their deeds. Then there are many verses covering the related doctrine of the resurrection of the dead on the second coming of Jesus Christ.

The whole theory of purgatory, eternal suffering in hell denies absolutely the most important - the resurrection of the dead on the second coming of Jesus Christ to our earth!

Let the Bible speak. Judge for yourself what that says.

Some might say I don’t believe in spiritualism. I’m just going to participate for fun and socializing. But Halloween is so interwoven with evil teachings and practices that we should avoid any association with it. (1 The 5:22).  Halloween is a holiday dedicated to the devil and the false teaching of spiritualism that the dead can live on.

Pray for the safety and spiritual well being of all those who are participating in this holiday and share the truth about Halloween with other who will be willing to listen.. On this night we can strengthen the family’s t spirituality by studying the word of God and be prepared for the seconding coming of Jesus.  Jesus has said He come quickly and his reward is with Him – Rev 22:12.

A petition on change.org is aiming to move Halloween permanently to the last Saturday of October every year. The Halloween & Costume Association started the petition and is asking President Donald Trump to officially move the holiday.

"It's time for a safer, longer, stress-free celebration!" the petition reads. "Let's move Halloween to the last Saturday of October!"

(CBS News) -- Tens of thousands of people are asking the White House to change the date of Halloween from October 31 to the last Saturday of the month to make the holiday safer, longer and stress-free.( Kids’ don’t have to worry about schooling in the morning, and adults can stay up all night watching scary movies without worrying about work in the morning.) The Change.org petition already has more than 33,000 signatures. Many parents have long argued the holiday is less fun for everyone when it lands on a school and work night.

According to the Halloween and Costume Association, the organization that started the petition, 70 percent of parents do not accompany their children trick-or-treating and 3,800 people are injured every year in Halloween-related incidents. They say changing the holiday to a Saturday would make it safer, reports CBS News' Jericka Duncan.

Holidays have been moved before. In the 1960s, Congress moved George Washington's birthday and Labor Day to Mondays so people could conveniently observe with a three-day weekend.

But Halloween is not a federal holiday and likely won't become one, said author and historian Kenneth C. Davis.

"It's very expensive for the federal government to declare a federal holiday," he said. "So I don't see any time soon a new holiday for Halloween."

For Stone, moving Halloween to a Saturday would be a treat for all. "It would be nice if we could all be together like we are with other holidays."

Halloween, which began as a pagan tradition more than 1,000 years ago, gained popularity in the U.S. in the 1930s, Davis said. Many of those opposed to the change argue Halloween's date is rooted in long and historical tradition and because of that, it should remain on October 31st.

There is grave spiritual significance in this move by Satan. We are seeing here a petition to desecrate basically to trample on the foot the Lord’s seventh day of the week. This is part of fulfillment of prophecy. We were told they would exalt Sunday and desecrate the Sabbath and to xalt the sabbath of the man od sin.  at the same time diminish historical days by masking the historical event of Martin Luther nailing the 95 theses on the church door at Wittenberg on October 31, 1517. It is to rewrite the history record so that future generation will not know Satan’s hidden motive.

The issue in the last day is man made sabbath versus the Sabbath of the Lord. Its time to let others know the true day of worship.

The “All Saints Day” is masking the meaning of Rev 6:12 at the opening of the sixth  seal, marked :by the Nov 1, 1755 Great Lisbon earthquake where people who clung to cross and  hiding in churches all died for there is no power in the cross but in the character weaved in the character of Jesus. We are to be reminded of the final earth quake that must precede the second coming of Christ and to ask God for help to be ready and sealed for that day (GC 305.2)
